Scheduled Scan Setup

The following describes how to schedule ScanWin to perform an ad hoc inventory scan using Task Scheduler.  It covers basic setup for a small environment, further planning may be required for larger multi-site networks.

On the server or client PC ScanWin is installed on, open Task Scheduler from the Start menu:

Right-click on Task Scheduler (Local) and select Create Basic Task...

Provide a Name and a Description for the task and click Next:

Select an interval to run the task and click Next.  Daily is recommended however if scanning a larger environment, Weekly may be more appropriate to allow scan to complete before starting another:

Specify the date and time to start and how often you wish to run the scan and click Next:

These options will differ depending on the interval selected in the prior step

Select Start a program and click Next:

Click Browse... and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\ScanWin, select ScanWin.exe and click Open:

Do not select ScanWinViewer.exe

In the Add arguments (optional) text field, enter one of the following substituting your own domain, IP range, or device list information:

To scan via Active Directory:

<p>/d acmecorp.local /fp /lu /rp /sl</p>

To scan via IP range:

<p>/ip /fp /lu /rp /sl</p>

To scan via device list:

<p>/f C:\ScanWin\computers.txt /fp /lu /rp /sl</p>

Leave the Start in (optional) text field blank and click Next:

Check the box next to Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish and click Finish:

Make the following changes:

  • Click Change User or Group... and specify a user account that has administrative rights to the PC's being targeted for the scan
  • Select the radio dial next to Run whether user is logged on or not
  • Check the box next to Run with highest privileges

Make any additional modifications if desired and click OK:

If prompted, enter in the password for the user account selected to run the task and click OK:
