General System Requirements

Autodesk Inventory Tool runs on Windows machines that have Microsoft .NET Framework v4.5.2 or later installed and uses Microsoft WMI to communicate with Windows devices to collect inventory data.  There are two types of WMI, Windows Management Instrumentation and Windows Management Infrastructure, the latter is a newer CIM-based implementation that Microsoft has developed for their Windows Management Platform that PowerShell is based on.  AIT uses Windows Management Instrumentation as the default method.

For agentless scanning, AIT needs network access to each Windows device that will be scanned and the relevant credentials to access the device and query WMI.  Windows firewall should be configured to permit SMB and WMI communication.  See Network and Credentials for more details.  Microsoft .NET Framework is not required on agentless scanned devices.

AIT can also communicate with Active Directory to discover devices using LDAP.

The following is the minimum configuration recommended to run AIT.

Hardware

  • Intel or AMD processor that supports multiple cores/threads
  • 8GB RAM
  • To calculate the required space the following rule should be followed: for 10000 PCs 1 GB of free space is required, for 20000 PCs 2 GB of free space is required and so on.

Operating System

  • Windows Vista, SP2
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10
  • Windows Server 2008, SP2
